Welcome to the Special Education Assistant (SEA) Onboarding Training Series! To help prepare you for your role as a Special Education Assistant (SEA) with MPS, you’re required to complete this training series. You have 60 days after your start date to complete the trainings.

+ PART 1: Role of the SEA

Special Education Assistants (SEA) have a vital role in providing students with high-quality special education services. This online training will explore why and how SEAs are expected to provide student-centered support in the areas of promoting independence, fostering inclusion and teaching self-advocacy.

Duration: 30-45 minutes 


+ PART 2: Understanding the Basics of Accommodations and Modifications

Accommodations/modifications are extremely important elements of a Student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). This online training will provide foundational knowledge to help staff members gain a better understanding of what accommodations and modifications are and how they are used to help increase student achievement.

Duration: 30-45 minutes 


+ PART 3: An Introduction to Restrictive Procedures

Restrictive procedure is an important process used in MPS to ensure the safety of both students and staff members. This section provides a brief introduction to restrictive procedures and their expected use in MPS. As a staff member who works with students who receive special education services, it is your duty to be knowledgeable about restrictive procedures.

Duration: 30-45 minutes 


+ PART 4: SEA Training 101

The goals of this course are to provide SEAs with:

  • Instruction on common tasks SEAs complete.
  • Methods for interacting with teachers and students.
  • Models that depict appropriate SEA choices and behaviors.

Duration: 45-60 minutes 


+ PART 5: CFSS Certification Prep

This course is to serve as a pre-learning tool that prepares Special Education Assistants (SEAs) for the Department of Human Services CFSS training.

Duration: 30-45 minutes

+ SEA Time and Effort Reporting

Time and Effort reporting is required to secure funding.

Duration: 15 minutes
