Education funding is a complex process with revenues coming from multiple sources, some designated for specific uses. Education funding in urban districts becomes even more complex because of the number of students, schools and families involved.

Minneapolis Public Schools has nearly 36,000 students across the city and more than 70 schools or buildings. MPS receives funding from three general sources, the State of Minnesota, the federal government, and sources local to Minneapolis.
