This is a course emphasizing early intervention strategies and non-physical methods for handling disruptive behavior. Personal safety, restraints, transports, and team strategies will also be included. Registration is required in order to attend this training.
Training completes new MN Restrictive Procedures law requirements. This law requires training for all staff involved with the intervention of physical holding to protect a child or others from physical injury. It is recommended that ALL Special Education staff, including SEAs, teachers, social workers, and psychologists, as well as a team of 3 non-Special Education staff from each building (designated by the administrator) attend training. NCI Training meets the relicensure requirement for positive behavioral intervention strategies and accommodation.
Training will start promptly at 8 am. Bring a pen. You must complete the 8-hour NCI Certification training before you can take a 4-hour Refresher training.
Staff must complete the 8-hour NCI Certification training in the first year and attend the 4- or 6-hour NCI refresher every year after that. If you are in need of accommodations to preform the physicals or to complete the final test please let the trainer know prior to the training.

- Help intervene more safely when behavior becomes dangerous.
- Learn verbal techniques to de-escalate behavior.
